What is The UCan Project?

Transforming trash into treasure

 

The UCan Project model focuses on

(1) preserving the value of materials through proper recycling

(2) empowering communities to improve social conditions by funding important nonprofit programs

UCan leverages the impact of each recycler by partnering with donors (such as local businesses and individual community members)  who match material recycled at a sponsored site with a donation to The Finger Lakes Climate Fund, a project by nonprofit Sustainable Tompkins that creates renewable energy grants for low-income families. UCan is an easy way to connect communities with capital to thrive AND help universities recycle cleaner. Plus, corporations achieve social and environmental responsibility through verified, high-impact carbon-offsets through a single donation.

Our Campaigns

Campaigns define us as an organization. It’s how we engage college students with our mission and help them recycle right. 

 

The UCan Project campaigns create an environment where recycling is simple and incentivized by providing standardized recycling labels infused with inspiring environmental art to each sponsored site. Labels identify what can / cannot be recycled, and are posted above recycling bins.
